The
Spalding Energy plant, a 860 MW power station, has a long term
energy tolling agreement with the UK gas and power company Centrica.
The plant provides it power to Centrica’s domestic and industrial
customers via the UK national Grid. The Spalding plant employs
some of the most technically advanced equipment in the power industry
and combined with the use of the most energy efficient fuel (natural
gas) the Oxides of nitrogen (Nox) are approximately 1% of a those
emitted by a conventional coal plant with sulphur dioxide (SO2)
emissions approaching zero. In addition the facility generates
less than half the carbon Dioxide (CO2) of a coal station making
the plant a positive force in the global effort to reduce levels
of green house gases.

plant technical specifications are as follows :

18 stage compressor develops 17 bar pressure.
3 stage power turbine.
The combustion stage utilises 18 burners.

Evaporator sections are natural circulation.
High Pressure (HP) cycle runs at 140 bar generating 405 tonnes/hr
of superheated steam at 565ºC.
Intermediate Pressure (IP) and Reheat Systems run at 30 bar
with superheated steam at 565ºC.
IP system generates an additional 24 tonnes/hr of steam.
Low Pressure (LP) cycle runs at 7.5 bar generating an additional
15 tonnes/hr of saturated steam at 330ºC.

3 stages of expansion in High Pressure (HP), Intermediate Pressure
(IP) and Low Pressure (LP) turbines.
Steam supplied at 140 bar pressure and 565ºC.
Steam exhausted at 85 mbar absolute and 50ºC.
Power Output at generator terminals – 360 Megawatts (nominally).

Terminal Voltage - 24KV (24000 Volts).
Hydrogen Cooled.
- Air
Cooled Condenser (ACC)

ACC converts 900 tonnes/hr of steam to water.
7 rows of Heat Exchanger.
5 cooling fans per row - 35 fans total.
Fans are electric motor driven via gearbox.
